Ken Hornecker

director of accounting

Ken is an invaluable part of the Golden Life AFC team and a person everyone wants to know. We are so grateful to have him on our team as Director of Accounting – both for his sharp financial acumen and warm personality.  When he’s not in the office, he’s a beloved father to three, grandfather to two (with two more on the way!), and dog-father to two fur babies, Mariah and Freckles.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Ken first left his home to move to Michigan for college. You could say that was a good move for him, because he married his college sweetheart in 1983, soon after graduating from Hope College with his BA, Summa Cum Laude.

Since then, Ken’s worked in numerous roles including serving as Treasurer to the Godwin Heights School Board and as Vice President to the Kent Intermediate School Board. He has also worked with monthly clients to create reconciliations, write-ups, prepared financial statements, and analysis reports. He’s garnered several achievements and awards, including a Michigan Association of School Boards Master Platinum Award and Speciality Certificates in Advocacy Skills and Data Specialty.

He came to Golden Life AFC in July of 2019 after a short stint abroad working on financial statements and tax preparations in Holland. He’s a numbers person through and through and loves being able to look for both positive and negative trends within financial data.

When you work with Ken, you’ll find that he has incredible communication skills. He can make complex financial data make perfect sense. Whether he is preparing you for a flawless tax season, helping you understand what complicated financial reports are actually saying, or analyzing your monthly statements, he’s someone you’ll be happy to have on your side. His ability to look at both the big picture and the often-missed details truly set him apart.
